A Day of Classics & Newbies

I hope everyone had a nice weekend, and if not, then I hope you went to the libraries very own National Gaming Day. That’s right, a day of relaxing and chilling with your favorite video and board games, on a Monday!  Yeah, everyone came to enjoy a snack, play some video games, and have a good time. National Gaming Day is sure one of my favorite library events; it’s the only event where we have the opportunity to be loud in the library!

They had The Legend of Zelda, Duck Hunt, Just Dance 4, Rock Band, and much more oldies and classics, and let’s not forget our very own Mario Brothers, the #1 game that everyone knows and loves. They also had a variety of board games like Chess, Mancala, and Connect 4!

Seeing all these games sure brought back some memories of when I used to play with my childhood friends. It was nice reliving those memories again and having some laughs, especially seeing some of the faculty members doing things we never thought we see them do. GO library staff! Well I hope you guys had a good time, I know I did.

STU Culture Day 2013

Hello Bobcats! I hope you all had an amazing afternoon and time at the culture day celebration, that took place Wednesday, November 13th 2014. Being exposed to many of the customs of our neighboring and distant countries, felt like we weren’t in United States anymore. Along with many others, we’ve been exposed to Dominic Republic, Canada, Turkey, Italy, China, and so much more. We even had live performances who represented the cultures they were hosting.

I must say I really liked them all and especially the performance that WSTU95 did with music from Dominica Rep. of three different styles. The area was quite full of enthusiastic people, students and teachers, who were curious to know about what goes on outside of our homeland.

“It’s my favorite event of the year! It gets exciting each time, and it’s worth the wait.” One fellow bobcat said when I interviewed her. Another said “It’s a burst of joy and its great and fun.”As for myself, it’s one of my favorites as well. The food provided for us from each country was, as you may say, DELICIOUS! Well, I hope everyone that showed their support had a blast among many others.

Have a good weekend everyone and study well for upcoming exams!

AL Jazeera Visits STU

Well, Bobcats, I hope that you all watch the news daily because we recently had a speaker named Natasha Ghoneim, from the new AL Jazeera America news channel to present her commitment to quality journalism and unbiased reporting in American news. This happened at the library this week and she told us something that we all should be doing; keeping up to date with the world. What do I mean by that? Well, following up with the news on your local or national channels and not just any news I mean REAL news, not just celebrity or arts news, but news that impacts our lives and others in a positive or negative way.

Natasha told us that it’s very important that we are aware of what goes on in the world around us. I agree. AL Jazeera searches and broadcasts hard and impacting news that somehow affects the rest of us. So remember, stay tuned in and spend at least some of your spare time catching up with real news, whether it’s on the TV, radio, newspaper, or whatever, you might find out something that will very well affect your life.

Have a nice day Bobcats!

A Grand Night of Excitement

Well you’ll be happy to hear that Bobcat Explosion was indeed an exploding night, demonstrating outstanding school spirit. We had live performances and events from the school’s band, cheerleaders, dance team, a rock band, and so much more. The event’s theme was Go Green, showing care to our dear friend Earth. So remember we all share the same home, so please be sure to recycle, keep it clean, and spread love to our green planet. It was started off from the school’s band, performing rhythmic beats and dance moves, keeping the audience entertained and alive. I myself wished to go down there on the floor and joined them. Our exquisite cheerleaders did a show for us, and their performance showed courage and determination, especially with those stunts a few did when thrown in the air.

We had dance performances from the lovely ladies of our dance team and SWAG step team, which was very entertaining, as they kept us waiting with tension and suspense to see what they’ll next do next, and what a few twists they had. I also really enjoyed the rock band that performed there as well. It was my first time seeing them performed and it reminded me of past concerts I went to. Hopefully I’ll see more of them. Another interesting show we saw was a fashion show and of course the theme was Go Green. All the outfits were either made out of trash bags, shirts, newspapers and surprisingly even duct tape, and I’m still wondering how they pulled that off. Many of our fellow bobcats participated in a mini basketball game and it seems they all had fun and proved that Chicago guy that we have school spirit. Well that’s how our Bobcat explosion was, very energetic and alive. It sure made my night seeing many familiar faces on stage and cheering on them, having their flow of energy of excitement within me.
